Hotels & Motels in Moose Jaw, SK

• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide for Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

As their motto says, Moose Jaw is a small town with a big history. Located in the middle of the great Canadian prairies, the city is situated in southern Saskatchewan, a province that is aptly known as the Land of Living Skies. The name refers to the flat topography of the prairies so that the horizon extends hundreds of kilometres away. During the day, a few clouds dance across the big blue skies and at night every corner of the heavens is filled with an infinite number of stars.

Natural beauty is just one of the reasons that Moose Jaw is growing as a centre for tourism; the residents of this small city are also active in preserving and promoting their heritage. The city has been home to First Nations people, European explorers, determined pioneers, bootlegging gangsters, skilled aerobatics pilots, and most recently, the world’s largest moose affectionately named Mac

Visitors to the city won’t have a shortage of things to do and see, or any trouble getting around town. The community has well maintained roads and the City of Moose Jaw Transit System stops at all of the major sights and attractions and a taxi ride through the small city is an economical option. Finding accommodation is also easy—several hotels and motels from budget-friendly options to luxury resorts are sprinkled in around the town.

A LUXURY STAY IN THE HEART OF THE CITY

One of the most notable aspects of the city is the well-preserved red-brick architecture of the downtown area. This is due to an unfortunate event in 1891 when a massive fire destroyed much of the town centre. After this incident, it became mandatory to use brick or stone for building construction and a hundred years later the result is a charming, historic feel to the downtown area. Main Street has become an eclectic mix of heritage buildings, intimate eateries and boutique shops.

Given Moose Jaw’s small size, there are a surprisingly large number of accommodation options, including several upscale establishments in the heart of the city. Moose Jaw’s most famous luxury hotel is also Saskatchewan’s largest resort, Temple Gardens Mineral Spa Resort. This beautiful hotel and spa is built around natural geothermal mineral pools that were originally famed for their healing properties. The pools are open to the public and are worth a visit (or several) even for visitors that aren’t staying at the hotel.

COMFORTABLE ACCOMMODATIONS AT A REASONABLE PRICE

Visitors on a budget will appreciate the range of more economical choices in Moose Jaw and a mix of chain hotels and independent establishments are available at reasonable prices throughout the city. Guests can look forward to clean, comfortable rooms and typically even budget hotels offer a complement of free services and amenities including a fresh newspaper and gourmet coffee served with continental breakfast. Some brand name hotels also have fitness facilities and indoor pools.

The Heritage Inn is a particularly popular independent accommodation, which boasts a blend of traditional and modern conveniences. Situated on the north end of Main Street, this hotel has over 100 guestrooms, an indoor swimming pool, a hot tub, a restaurant, pub and meeting facilities. The hotel also has a booking desk where staff can provide visitors with information about Moose Jaw’s colourful past, including the must-see site, the Tunnels of Moose Jaw where visitors can learn about rum-running, bootlegging and Al Capone’s secret hideaway during prohibition.

CONVENIENCE WITH A PACKAGE HOLIDAY

Since there is a lot to see and do in the city of Moose Jaw, several hotels advertise special packages. Typically these packages combine a multi-night stay with tickets to local attractions or sporting activities. Some of the upscale hotels offer honeymoon specials, which includes the hotel’s best room combined with elegant amenities and services for a romantic getaway.  In particular, the romance package at Temple Gardens Mineral Spa Resort includes unlimited access to the hot springs and couple’s spa treatments.
